The Palouse Ice Rink
Have you visited the new ice rink south of town? The recreation facility offers numerous activities! They offer: public skating, hockey, seniors coffee club, skater tots, figure skating, learn-to-skate classes, college classes, broomhall, curling, pickleball, roller skating, corporate meetings, parties and events, kids camp, and science on ice!
About the Facility:
The Palouse Ice Rink opened in 2002 as a temporary structure on the Latah County Fairgrounds. When the facility began falling apart after many years, the need and community desire for a permanent structure became apparent. The PIR began efforts to raise funds for a new, full-size, permanent facility. Along with a $1 million donation from the City of Moscow, many people stepped up and helped in significant ways. When the former NRS building south of Moscow became vacant in 2019, owners Bill and Donna Parks and PIR board member Tony Mangini envisioned remodeling it for a new ice rink. Eventually the Parks agreed to sell the 44,000 square foot building to PIR at a significantly reduced price – a generous gift that the PIR decided earned them the right to have the building named after them. The new Parks Activity and Recreation Center is large enough to contain all the amenities the ice rink dreamed of.
